Well hello everyone and welcome to March,
How did February treat you? Anyone get proposed to? Or have their first birthday in 4 years?
None of that happened here, I am still very happily single and I get a birthday every year so I shouldn’t complain!
It may not have been the most romantic February, but I republished two short stories on Valentine’s Day, which was fun. They were from anthologies I submitted to years and years ago, so since the rights had come back to me I whipped up some covers and put them on Amazon. One of them instantly tunnelled its way into my head and is demanding a sequel, so if you like Fantasy of Manners Romance stories with Dragons and impoverished cousins forced into an adult role too early, then you might get a treat at some point this year. If you would like to read those short stories, you can find out more through this link to the post where I talk about them. Link
I bought my tickets for the WorldCon in Glasgow in August, and even more importantly, I started shopping for the last pieces of the cosplay I will be wearing to it. Some of this was the purely practical stuff, more fabric and a job lot of buttons and some vintage knitting wool. Other bits were less practical, like a fancy bronze belt buckle and an Uma Thurman Poison Ivy eyebrow mask leaf thing. Because I’m planning on going as Victorian Autumn Poison Ivy. Because, of course, I am.
There’s plenty of LARP to get to before I get to that though, and of course there is more kit I want to make, and remake in some cases since some things did not turn out the way I wanted them. Like the red shirt I made which has a lopsided hem, and the houppelande which is currently spread around my room in bits after I pulled it apart last year. This year looks like it will be pretty exciting at Empire, we have a new Empress, and a brand new enemy as well! The new Empress is a lovely person who I have met several times and who I have finished off spicy chips for, so I think she’s great! The Cold Sun, on the other hand, are a very interesting villain because they learn from you every time you fight them, and they wish to burn out all thinking life on the planet – starting with the Empire since we managed to piss them off. Plus, a treaty with one of the barbarian nations has just ended, so that’s going to be a problem, and um, one of their city-states that used to be one of our territories has come back to the Empire but in a different nation from where they used to be. So lots of drama and plotting, which is just what you want at the beginning of a new year of LARP games. Fingers crossed, we all survive, and if we don’t, we get a good story out of it.
My current knitting project is a pink and yellow striped cardigan, I have one sleeve left to do and then it’s all sewing up time, folks! It’s been a bit of an experiment, rather than using a pattern I’ve been almost draping it? I just plop it against my body and see if it will fit. So fingers crossed, I haven’t screwed that up. I’ll find out soon if I have, there’s only a sleeve left!
I think that’s about all of my news, say hi in the comments and mention if anything I’ve talked about has caught your interest,
Stay safe out there,
K
