LARP Basics To Up Your Game

Hello folks!

We are officially into LARP season! Here are some of the items which make my life easier whilst camping in between running around pretending to be a wizard/monster hunter/sheep farmer with a side hustle as a witch.

A green camping tent with a dome shape, featuring a front entrance and a side window.

First, here is the tent I use. It says it is a 4 person tent, but don’t get too excited – that basically means two people can squeeze in with their bags if they don’t mind being in each others pockets. I’ve used it for about 5 years now and the only thing I have had to do is buy some heavier duty pegs. Would definitely recommend! It comes in even more colour options than when I bought it, so go have fun and buy every colour available!

A black and red rolling duffle bag featuring a logo with a bat design and the word 'Cerberus' prominently displayed.

Second, my suitcase! It seems weird to need a suitcase for a camping trip, but it really is the easiest way to get things around. Especially when you get something with wheels like this! Woosh, wooo, zoom, etc. But yeah, the wheels are a big reason why I love this thing. It basically makes it fly over most terrain and in a hobby that involves a lot of fields and gravel paths, this is vital. It is also very sturdy and has loads of pockets and bits to help you out. It is supposed to be a kit bag for weight lifters, so it is STRONG but it does come with vents – presumably for stinky shoes and gym clothes – so you have to be careful in the rain.

Third, my camp bed! So the bed you sleep on at events is a big deal for making sure you survive in one piece. Some folks can survive with nothing more than a yoga mat, but they are magical unicorns and should not be trusted. Blow up beds are pretty much the best option if you don’t want to have to lug metal legs around, so that’s what I have been using for the last few years. After several years on supermarket basic blow up beds, I bought this camp bed, it has a memory foam insulating layer which I loved these past weekends when it was frosty! It also has an internal pump that means you can blow it up without any extra gadgets, which is very handy.

A blue sleeping bag with a tan interior, featuring a quilted design and an opening at the top.

Tragically my beloved sleeping bag seems to be out of stock, but here is a link to it just in case it comes back. I was recommended this by a friend and I have been using it pretty much all the time since then. It is an amazing sleeping bag and after a year or so of use all the zips and such are still working, which puts it ahead of a bunch I have used over the years.

And that is it! If you have anything you would like to recommend please leave a comment, I am always happy to get new ideas!
