Winds of Fortune 2, E2 2025

Hello folks, time to see the second batch of winds and what is coming down the road for us this coming weekend!

As i said in the last batch, there are some winds that are being updated as the weekend comes closer, these are the Winds of Magic and the Vistors to Anvil Wind. I bwould recommend keeping an eye on these to make sure you stay up to date. Luckily there is a date at the top to let you know if anything new has come out, which is basically my new favourite thing about the Winds!

Anyway, let’s get started with some news from the Marches!

A Pinch of Salt

Last year several hundred marchers were saved from the Autumn Realm thanks to the incredible work by Gemma Brightsmith! Now they have spent some time acclimatising to their new century and have brought us all kinds of juicy news and offers.

The first offer is an opportunity to build the Stone Smith’s Workshop, either at the Woldstone at Ashbrook in Upwold or The Maiden Stone on the Maiden Downs in Mitwold. This workshop would be a title that would have numerous benefits, such as a one throne stipend every season and a pauper’s key every Spring, but the really intriguing thing is that it would have the power to submit a plenipotentiary once a year at Autumn. It would cost 8 white granite, 8 mithril, 8 ilium, and 6 thrones in labour and only take a season to build.

This worshop can be bult in either Upwold or Mitwold, there is no mechanical benefit to either, just bragging rights. And Marchers love their bragging rights. The Wind seems to be saying that the territory with the most Smith Archetypes coming to Anvil will get the honour, so if you are planning on changing to this new Archetype get on it quick!

Golden Magicians Fayre

Last Autumn there was a massive Summer enchantment cast on Dawn, it was supposed to only last for one season, but for reasons not entirely clear, it has lasted until the Spring as well. This has resulted in every Summer eternal (except for Hayaak) sending heralds to Dawn. All Dawnish characters will have experienced some of the roleplaying effects of this enchantment and players are encouraged to look up the list of Summer eternals and wave them into their downtime stories.

According to the wind, the roleplaying effect “causes many to feel a deep fascination for magic, and a more widespread urging to make an effort to enhance the showmanship and performative aspects of magical acts by everyone in Dawn. Not only magic is affected; that urge to act larger than life, to add a little splendour and colour to one’s life is almost universal. People laugh louder, cry more heart-wrenchingly, and put little flourishes on everything they do from making a cake to making music, from sweeping a yard to singing a song, touching for a few brief moments the majesty at the heart of the Summer realm.”

The heralds are also interacting with everyone in the Barrens, so Navaar with a resource there and the various orc tribes will have also had the chance to meet Summer Heralds.

Boons

For the duration of the Spring Summit any Dawnish character may pick a magical boon and the accompanying roleplaying effect. If you are a Changeling then the roleplaying effect will hit harder.

  • The boon of Meraud: If they have the magician skill, they can gain two points of personal mana (increasing their maximum mana)
  • The boon of Rhianos: If they have the hero skill, they can choose to gain a hero point (increasing their maximum number of hero points).
  • The boon of Adamant: Anyone can choose to gain a rank of endurance
  • The boon of Eleonaris: Anyone can choose to gain the ability to call CLEAVE once each day with any melee weapon except a pike.
  • The boon of Cathan Canae: A character with the Weapon master skill can choose to call either STRIKEDOWN with a pole-arm, or IMPALE with a great weapon once each day.
  • The boon of Jaheris: A character who knows the empower spell can choose to gain the ability to cast it on two targets simultaneously, rather than a single character

Each of these boons comes with a roleplaying effect: you feel proud of your deeds and those of your companions. It feels good to talk about your achievements and your ambitions. Hearing someone belittle, insult, or discount you or any of your Dawnish countryfolk causes a surge of furious anger to rise up inside you and it can be difficult resisting the urge to put such people in their place.

Meraud

Meraud has mostly recovered from his problems at earlier summits. He is sending his heralds out again and they appear to be spending a lot of time speaking to some individuals in Dawn in particular. They also seem to have changed in some ways, favouring the colour purple and foxes in particular. Also war magic, lots of that.

Cathan Canae and Eleonaris

Both eternals have sent heralds to Dawn this season, and where they meet they tend to get into fights, so the wise have been working to keep them from stepping on each other’s toes. There are several boons for armies from these two Queens of the Summer Realm

Eleonaris – During the Spring Equinox, if any of the following armies that were camped in Astolat, the Eastern Sky, Golden Sun, and Gryphon’s Pride of Dawn; the Granite Pillar of Highguard, the Freeborn Fire of the South, the Wolves of War from the League, and the Northern Eagle of Varushka, are enchanted with Knights of Glory they shall gain 2000 rather than 1000 Summer soldiers. Any players who send their military unit along with one of the enchanted armies will also gain Golden Apple, aka Summer Vis.

Cathan Canae – For the next year, any Frozen Citadel of Cathan Canae conjured in Dawnish territory will be empowered. Rather than 2,000 strength each such citadel will provide 3,000 strength. Additionally, if a Frozen Citadel is placed at Hope’s Rest every season for the next year then the area will become infused with some of Cathan Canae’s magic. The region will gain the Rimebound quality – the weather there will always be slightly worse than in the rest of the Barrens, with regular snowfalls and even blizzards in winter. But any casting of Frozen Citadel of Cathan Canae – or any other similar Summer enchantments – will be empowered. Any citadel will be 3000 strength rather than 2000; if there was a mortal castle there then Golden Ramparts would provide 1500 extra strength, and Stalwart Stand on Solid Ground will mean the fortification does not collapse until the ritual ends no matter how much damage it takes. ALSO there is the offer of a permanent casting of the Frozen Citadel ritual using 100 rather than 300 Illium in Hope’s Rest.

Jaheris

Heralds of Jaheris have become fascinated by the Harps of Astolat and have offered to move part of the Court to the region and play them seasonally. Thsi would mean that special vis would be produced at the Mana sites across the region, most seasons producing Summer Vis and in the WInter a special Vis that can be used for any realm, but only for Curses. This would also forever change the Coombe region to having the Wild Woods quality and the region would become more expensive to build in and more dangerous. The Knight Protector of Winter has the responsibility to choose whether or not to take up this offer.

Summer College

There is an offer from Meraud and Adamant to build a Summer focused Magical College. The Circle of the Semmerstones would cost 70 wains of mithril, 60 wains of weirwood, 80 wains of white granite, and 630 crowns. It would take at least a year to complete, and have an Upkeep of 12 Thrones each season. This would also remove the ability for Dawn to support any other Magical Colleges, but it would be a specifically Dawnish College, the title appointed by Tally of the Votes.

It would codify any ritual at the rate of one season for every 10 magnitude it possessed. As long as the Enchanter of the Semmerstones was a noble enchanter, then when working on any ritual with a magnitude of 100 or greater, the college would codify it slightly faster – increasing the rate of codification by 5 magnitude each season. But with the patronage of Meraud, the college would be able to speed up the work by paying in Orichalcum.

Adamant’s patronage would mean the college was practically indestructible, and the Queens of the Summer Realm would give the Knight Protector of Summer weapons and armour if they added protecting the College to their duties.

Rhianos

For the next six months, military units and fleets controlled by questing knights and knights-errant gain additional rewards when they take questing ventures or voyages.

Barien

The Iron Duke offers a schema that can be studied by Dawnish artisans to learn how to create a focus for use by magicians performing Challenge the Iron Duke and Champions Shining Resolve. The Dawnish egregore – Ser Hugh, Knight-Errant has the schema and has sworn to return it at the end of the Spring Equinox. Anyone who is not able to get it from the egregore this event should email in to Profound Decisions before the end of the next downtime. But remember, you have to be Dawnish to get this magical crafting recipe.

Vigilance

The Vigilance Assembly were checking Astolat over for signs of Agramant cultists, there don’t seem to be many and they don’t seem to be active right now. The locals are far more worried about the Vallorn over the border. Dawn is getting a bit too enthusiastic about the Summer eternals, but it is nto quite idolatry yet, But there should probably be an eye kept on this corner of the Empire.

Enchantment

This will be the last time that an enchantment like this can be cast on a nation without the help of an Eternal. Individual territories and the entire Empire can be enchanted, but not a nation by itself.

It’s What We Do

At the Winter Solstice, the Imperial Senate passed a motion to establish the Imperial Apothecaries Guild as a sodality. There were some problems as the Civil Service did not make it clear what needed to be written down as part of the Consitution, so there will be some flexibility for a time on getting that right.

The civil service has reserved the use of the Senate chamber for the Guild from 15:00 to 15:30 on the Saturday. The first and most important bit of work that needs to be done will be to induct their new members. In order to do this as efficiently as possible the Civil Service has created an Arcane Projection that will allow everyone present to be inducted in one batch, rather than in lots and lots of little castings.

The Senate could also give the new Apothecaries Guild control over various powers currently held by the Senate.

One power is the ability to induct a potion into Imperial Lore, this vote will be at the Friday Senate session.

The other power is to interdict and un-interdict potions, there is no set vote for this yet.

Ammendments to the Constitution

There are several groups who are looking to change the Apothecaries’ Guild Constitution before it gets too settled.

  • The League and Freeborn apothecaries wish there to be more official language on the constitution about getting paid for their work. If the Apothecaries’ Guild adopts a statement of belief that clearly expresses the idea that apothecaries should be paid for their skills, then the group will donate twenty herbs each season to the Guild leader.
  • The Yerende of the Imperial Orcs also have an offer. If Thornsong House is destroyed, then the Yerende would be prepared to throw the combined efforts of their sept behind the creation of a new herbal school, provided it was under the control of the Apothecaries’ Guild. The new school would bring together apothecaries and herbalists from across the Empire, including many from the Navarr, to work alongside the Yerende.
  • The Navaar and the Varushkans have asked that the powers of the Apothecary Guild be changed to include the ability to interdict potions, to definitely include drugs in their remit, and to have the ability to investigate a substance for 10 thrones over the course of a season.

High Hopes

And now we are back to the Marches, this time onto the subject of Cow Wains!

Last season Marchers were given the opportunity to swap their seasonal income to Cow Wains, everyone who signed up will get their wains on a paper slip in their character pack. Cow wains lost over the event will be sold in absentia and the money will go to the upkeep of the local markets and spent on the upcoming summer fayres. I have given these opportunities a summarised total, for more details check the orginal wind. If any of the players named below have extra cow wains in their inventory after the end of the event then they will be sold for 18 rings a wain.

At the end of the event players will have the opportunity to sell their wains back to the market and make money in that way. The prices will reflect local supply and demand, so the fewer wains sent to market the more they will go for.

The Southern Herd needs 240 cow wains to be started and 600 cow wains for the maximum benefit. The more the Southern Herd gets the larger the eventual sinecure will be and the more the title will get from it. Details will need to be organised with the droving, as it will take two seasons and require military support.

The Dhomiro of Afar can increase the size of their herd using cattle bonds. If the Dhomiro can acquire one hundred bonds, it will increase the income from their sinecure by 250 rings a season.

A Baron of the Iron Confederacy is looking to buy cow wains. The Ambassador to the Iron Confederacy is responsible for this. The Baron will pay 50 marrowort and 50 crowns for the first fifty cattle bonds, and 75 green iron for a second group of 50.

The Merchant Prince of Misericorde Market has been asked to get 12 cow wains for a young Sandfisher Orc. They will pay 16 drams of realmroot.

The Banner-bearer of Atkonaroq can use one hundred cattle bonds to lure a horrible monster out of the Suaq Wastes.

(Stealing this bit from the “A Box For A Sword” Wind)

The Silent Market are looking to buy Cow Wains and will pay in a spice unknown to Imperial Magicians, one dram of Vermillion Spice to one Cow Wain. The spice rejuvenates a magician’s store of personal mana.

Love And War

Dawn has spent the last two years funding a new Army (well, not everyone can be Varushka and get it funded before the senate motion hits the floor) and it is time to make the last decisions on its make up. Like a name.

The Senator of Astolat gets to pick the new name, BUT it must not be too closely linked to the Hounds of Glory. They also get to choose the new Army Quality, which will shape the way the army fights. I’ll be honest, I don’t know enough about the military game to give good summaries of how these things work. So check out the actual wind if you want more details.

Glorious – No extra costs – Eleonaris will provide the General with a magic sword – High casualty rates for larger territory capture and defence

Guardian – No extra costs – Reduce the number of casualties in this army and all accompanying it

Vanguard – No extra costs – Does not get a penalty for being part of the first attack on a new region

Magic – The Circle of the War Witch will have to be built, 25 white granite, 75 crowns in labour and Dawn will lose the ability to build a College of Magic – The Army general will gain mana crystals depending on the victory points scored by the army over down time and the army can be used to enchant an area like a regio

Damming the Doubt

There is an opportunity to dam a river and redirect the water to a very arid part of the Empire. Unfortunately, the dam would be placed right on top of a very haunted battle field. It is right next to the Black Plateau and is suuuper cursed. Anyone trying to build there would probably go mad unless steps were taken to try and stop it.

Ylenwe

The Day eternal has offered help, but will require amity to do so. If amity were held for a year then the Empire would also receive plans for a fane that would allow the eternal to help block the malignant effects of the Black Plateau going forward.

Assemblies

League – The Leaguish Assembly seems to be all for it. In order to help the Imperial Orcs they have a mandate that they could raise which would ask the congregations of Spiral to help guard the Imperial Orcs.

Urizen and Brass Coast – Have not seemed very interested, but there is still time for them to put something up in their assemblies about it.

Varushka – There is a mandate that the Varushkan Assembly can pass which will ask the Volhovs of the nation to go to the dam’s building site and ward it against ghosts.

Imperial Orcs – The Imperial Orcs will be visiting the site to reclaim the bones of the dead Imperial Orcs. They have also requested that the names of the dead be carved into the stones of the dam, this will need a senate motion and it will cost 5 thrones.

The Play That Came to Apulian

A lot of weird things seem to be happening in Apulian this last season.

For one thing, people are getting lost and turning up in places they have never been before. They are usually fine, and keept entertained by a lot of drama when they get wherever they end up, but the city isn’t really big enough for this sort of thing, so it must be a night enchantment or something similar.

For another, dramaturgy is being very . . . dramatic this past season. Theatres are full, and people in the streets are able to call on the dramaturgical elements to their benefit. It’s all a bit weird.

There is an option to build an Academy of Dramaturgical Arts to find out what is going on. It would require 20 white granite, 10 weirwood, 15 mithril and 105 crowns in labour.

The alternative is to build a larger college of magic which would include the effects of the Academy of Dramaturgical Arts in it. This would take a year to build, cost 70 white granite, 60 weirwood, 70 mithril and 75 thrones in labour, and would have a 12 throne per season ongoing cost. It would also use the League’s Magical College slot and they would not be able to build it elsewhere.

Player Participation

Any League or Urizen citizen whose resource is in Spiral can roleplay that they have experienced the strange phenomena. You will have gotten lost and found yoruself in a new part of Apulian to you, but things will have turned out OK and you probably had a lovely time watching some kind of drama – real life or theatrical.

You may have also met someone acting like one of the 6 dramaturgical characters – or found yourself embodying one of those characters!

During this summit, any League or Urizen character whose resource is in Spiral can draw on the power of one of the six personae as a source of spiritual strength to resist a roleplaying effect by instead embracing the roleplaying associated with this intensification of the personae. You may do this at any time during the summit, as often as feels appropriate, but you may only use a single personae throughout the event.

Check the wind for the details on the options.

Sung

Something weird is happening to Sung, the Night Eternal, and they are getting upset and fractious. Comign close, in fact, to demanding a fane be built to them, something that seems really out of character. There are no clear reasons for this.

Some might point out that the Senate’s reluctance to build the fane (it has been approved of by Conclave and Synod) might be a good thing. But the options are still present for the work to begin. It would cost, 15 mithril, 12 ilium, 40 crowns in labour and that includes the increase in cost to projects in Spiral due to the Black Plateau.

Our Eyes in Spiral

More news from Spiral. The Vigilance Assembly sent people here, they have created reports on the various parts of the territory that they think are the most relevant.

Black Plateau

The very dangerous tours of the Black Plateau have stopped.

The Vigilant have provided a detailed list of the kinds of people who get their minds taken over by the Black Plateau.

The Vigilant recommend building a citadel to encapsulate the Black Plateau and stop people wandering up there. Unfortunately it would be horrendously expensive as no one wants to be there. Ylnwe has offered options to help with that, though, check previous winds. The building work would cost 80 white granite, 20 mithril and 80 thrones in labour, but if Ylenwe’s help were accepted this would decrease the labour costs to only 300 crowns, or 37 and a half thrones. There would also be an ongoing cost of 10 thrones for upkeep. The title, the Oblivion Sentinel, would receive 5 crystal fire each year and 10 crowns per season in thanks from the locals.

Apulian

There is evidence of an espionage ring in Apulian.

One investigator has been lost to madness in Apulian trying to find it, a conjunction has been arranged to try and get them back.

Conjunction – The Empty Cellar

The Voice of Vigilance is responsible and there will be space for 5 people on this conjunction.

This is a tent encounter and Combat is Very Unlikely

The conjunction will be leaving the Sentinel Gate at 18:20 on Friday (so get there before then)

The Rebels

There do not appear to be any ongoing threats from the Urizeni Rebels and they do not appear to be in contact with the Grendel at this time.

The Vigilant

The Vigilant have run out of time to find things in Spiral, but clearly have more to find. If they are asked to return for their final season then they will be able to find a lot more.

A Box For A Sword

This wind is full of offers from the Autumn Realm to shoppers and traders at Anvil.

Wains

A new group has taken over the buying and selling of wains, they will sell them based on a supply and demand model. So the more that get sent to the Autumn realm the less money everyone back at Anvil will get. The opening prices will be 3 thrones 1 crown for all wains except illium. The illium seats are getting auctioned this event, so apparently the Autumn Realm doesn’t want to manipulate the prices by giving a minimum cost.

Armies

Callidus is prepared to offer Vossk of the Concordium of Pallas, an army of Autumn mercenaries, this would cost 300 mithril, 900 crowns and have a 50 throne seasonal upkeep.

Callidus would have to be under amity for this to work, and only Autumn enchantments would be able to be cast on the army.

It would have a plunder action that would allow it to take wealth and supplies from whoever they are attacking.

Alternatively, if the costs were too much, the Senate could cede Canterspire Circle to the City of Lead and Gold for the duration of the deal.

Fortifications

Delora of the Brass Coast and Arlais of Highguard enquired after the cost of a fortification built by the Autumn realm

The City of Lead and Gold cannot profitably fulfil this request at this time, but the copy of Immaculate Architect that they offered is for sale at a price of 77 rings of ilium.

Right, I am posting these before I get started on the final sprint!

See you soon with the rest of the Winds!
